Asefile project maintanance status

Do you know how well maintained the asefile project is?

I've opened a PR a couple of weeks ago: alpine-alpaca/asefile#22 but I see the last commit to that project was 8 months ago and the issues are mostly stale.

I'm not sure... As you no doubt saw I opened a pull request to update image in August so that we can update it in agb here: alpine-alpaca/asefile#20.

It's worked well enough for our use-case so far that we've not worried about it yet.

@gwilymk yup, I saw that too. My use case is to use LibreSprite instead of Aseprite to do the pixel art for the game.

Unfortunately the Asefile crate doesn't follow the Aseprite File Format Specification and expects the pixel width and height to be set to 1, for a 1:1 pixel ratio. Since LibreSprite only supports a 1:1 pixel ratio, doesn't care and is not setting that.

Alternatively I guess that could propose a patch for LibreSprite to always set a pixel width and height to 1, but I feel that asefile should be fixed nonetheless.

So what is the long term plan for agb with regard to asefile if this crate becomes abandonware?

We don't have long term plans for this

I see. And I guess nobody knows how to contact the developer? The only point of contact I see is https://twitter.com/alpalpgames but that account seems to also not be active for many months.

The problem is less the github repo, since anyone could fork and step up as maintainer but the crate in crates.io, since AFAIK there is not process to get ownership over an abandoned create....

It looks like the repo isn't abandoned just yet, but it sounds like it isn't well maintained and probably won't be: alpine-alpaca/asefile#18 (comment)
