Planning for 2025

• UCSD's Autoware implementation on Jetson AGX
  • Last year the students faced a lot of issues installing the latest Autoware on their 1/5th car with Jetson AGX using docker. They had to resolve a lot of dependency issues and couldn't get Autoware to work
  • Switching to Galatic branch could resolve a lot of the issues but this branch is obsolete. The f1tenth_galatic branch should work without much issue
  • Once installation is completed. I would suggest testing the regular Autoware pipeline using Lidar localization before switching to GNSS
  • Will set up regular meetings with the new team to help them get Autoware running
• Establishing Autoware's presence in autonomous racing competitions
  • RoboRacer
    • We already have Autoware's instruction/demo in the official RoboRacer documentation
    • Potentially have live demo sessions for Autoware in the in-person or online competitions
  • DIY robocar
    • Potentially participate in the competitions in the Bay Area to introduce Autoware to the contestant
    • Might need to add camera and lane detection capability
  • AKS competition
    • Many teams could only get the hardware ready before the competition and not spend too much time in software development
    • The organizer Andrew could help advertise our previous open-source work, especially how to run Autoware using our sim, to help the new team get started
• Off-road ODD
  • Continue our previous simulator development for off-road ODD
  • Build new pipelines and features for Autoware
    • Vision-based SLAM and localization

There could be different levels of involvement

1. Low (similar to current status):

• sponsoring racing events
• Providing tutorials and demos for racing platforms. Participating teams decide whether to use Autoware

2. Medium (utilize available resources without additional budget):

• Approach to AWF Member companies/universities that are already participating to existing racing events to form a team to brand it as Autoware Racing Team
• Have those members to join Racing WG to do the development

3. High (Hire members to form a team):

• Call for participants for team to join one or more racing events
• Potentially secure budgets to hire team members
