Depending on what the conversion is for, sometimes it's necessary to not copy the thousands separator. I had a case where I needed to convert minutes to milliseconds for a script I was writing. The script could not parse the separator so I had to manually remove it.
It might be a good way to use OPTION on a conv result: copy result without formatting. At the moment holding option does a spotlight search, which does not seem useful at all.
