New design for Alt+Tab in Gala

Gala is our window manager for elementary OS; it is responsible for placing windows, handling workspaces, and providing the multitasking features like tiling and alt+tab switching. While we are happy with the fundamental design of multitasking in elementary OS, there are some areas we've long wanted to address.

Outcome

We have some excellent progress on the design front for Alt+Tab, and just have not had the time to devote to implementing and iterating on it. A lengthy discussion of the challenges associated with the Alt+Tab design can be found here. Students should take in this discussion and design work and produce an improved Alt+Tab switcher that meets the needs expressed

Skills/Requirements

• Familiarity with object-oriented programming languages, and an ability to learn how to develop in an existing Vala codebase with help from our community of developers
• It is highly recommend to complete our developer guide
• Experience with Clutter or similar drawing code would be a huge help.
