How to override model base methods

I'm looking to override the Model.create method to have it make another model on creation but I keep getting TS errors with most things I try.

export class User extends Model {
  family!: Family | Promise<Family>

  $family () {
    return this.belongsTo(Family)
  }

  public static async create (attributes: any) {
    // Create family
    return super.create(attributes);
  }

  toJSON (): Omit<UserRow, 'password'> {
    const { password, ...rest } = super.toJSON()
    return rest
  }
}

Am I missing something pretty stupid here? 😅
